Sunrise by the Lake: Duluth Maternity Session at Park Point

Once upon a time on the shores of Lake Superior, Jillian and Alec had plans to say “I do” at Park Point Beach in Duluth, Minnesota. But, as life often does, it brought them an unexpected (and incredibly sweet) twist — they found out they were expecting their first little one.

With that news, their priorities shifted. Instead of hosting a big wedding, they decided to focus on preparing for their growing family — putting time and energy into their home, and saving up for the adventures ahead. It was a thoughtful choice, and one that truly reflected who they are — grounded, full of love, and excited for the future.

Since they had already booked me for their wedding, we simply pivoted. Their deposit turned into something equally special — a photo session to celebrate this chapter of their lives: the two (soon-to-be three) of them, along with their two adorable pups.

We met at Park Point Beach, the very spot where they’d once planned to say their vows, and instead greeted the morning with a sunrise photo session that was full of warmth, light, and so much love. The lake was calm, the sky painted in soft colors, and the whole vibe was peaceful — like the world was pausing just for them.

Jillian and Alec are the kind of couple that make photographing them easy. The love between them is obvious — gentle, joyful, and full of anticipation for the next chapter. And seeing them with their baby bump and their two dogs in tow just made the morning even more special.

Wishing these two (and their soon-to-arrive little one) so much happiness in the months and years ahead. Life had different plans, and I’d say it turned out exactly right.
