John & Julie’s Backyard Sedona Elopement with Kids
When John and Julie reached out about their elopement, I was immediately excited. They were planning a very special, intimate celebration with their children, traveling all the way from the Chicago area to tie the knot in Sedona. They envisioned a simple, heartfelt ceremony with their kids as their witnesses, and Julie’s oldest son as the officiant. Even though they contacted me just a week or two before their elopement, I was thrilled that I could be there to capture these precious memories for them as their Sedona elopement photographer.
The day started a little uncertain with the weather, but as often happens in Sedona, the skies cleared and the light was absolutely perfect. Their Airbnb backyard had been transformed into a charming little ceremony space, complete with a delicate arch and colorful flowers that added a personal touch. It was intimate, cozy, and felt just right for their family-centered celebration.
The ceremony itself was full of meaning. John and Julie read the vows they had written to each other, sharing words of love and commitment that were deeply touching. Their children then contributed to a beautiful family tradition: they added their own ribbons to a family plaque, which would later be braided together, symbolizing the unity of their family. It was such a sweet, emotional moment that captured the essence of what makes family so special.
After the ceremony, the kids happily went off to explore and play while John, Julie, and I headed out to capture some intimate couple’s portraits. We started near the Chapel of the Holy Cross, where the natural red rock formations created a stunning backdrop, and then drove over to Bell Rock to take advantage of the sweeping 360-degree views Sedona is famous for. Every frame felt vibrant, joyful, and full of love.
It was such a joy to witness this beautiful family come together in such a meaningful way. Capturing their elopement reminded me why I love being a Sedona elopement photographer—helping couples celebrate love in ways that feel uniquely theirs, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of Sedona.
