Anniversary Adventure at Black Beach | Mike + Emily
Once upon a summer’s day on the rugged shores of Lake Superior, I had the chance to photograph two of my favorite people — my nephew Mike and his amazing wife Emily.
They had traveled back to Minnesota from Colorado for a family visit, and as luck would have it, so had I. Our paths crossed at just the right time, and we knew we had to make the most of it. What better way to celebrate their anniversary than with a little adventure and some beautiful photos to mark the occasion?
We decided to head up to Black Beach in Silver Bay — one of my absolute favorite spots along the North Shore. The black sand, jagged rock formations, and that vast, endless lake stretching out behind it all… it’s the kind of place that feels a little like stepping into another world. Wild, peaceful, and stunning from every angle.
Mike and Emily are honestly a dream to photograph — playful, sweet, and just so easy to be around. They’ve got this effortless chemistry that makes every moment in front of the camera feel natural. Plus, they’re just plain fun, which makes my job that much better.
As we wandered along the shoreline, climbing over rocks and dipping our toes in the cool lake water, I couldn’t help but think how lucky I am — not just to capture their love, but to be part of their lives. Watching them laugh, hold each other close, and soak in the beauty of the moment was a reminder of what these sessions are really about: celebrating connection, love, and the simple magic of being together.
Happy anniversary, Mike and Emily. Thanks for letting me freeze this little moment in time — here’s to many more adventures (and photo shoots) together.
