A Heartfelt 70th Birthday Family Session in Sedona, Arizona
The Oh family traveled all the way from multiple states along the southeastern coast to meet up in Sedona, Arizona for a weekend filled with celebration, connection, and a little adventure. This special trip was in honor of their mom’s 70th birthday, and they wanted to make it even more memorable with a family photo session surrounded by Sedona’s stunning red rock views.
As their Sedona family photographer, I always keep an eye on the weather, especially during the rare rainy stretches we get here. The forecast showed several days of rain in a row, and we weren’t sure if the session would happen. But we decided to stick with our early morning plan and hope for the best. And I’m so glad we did! The rain stopped just in time, giving us a perfect window of calm skies, soft light, and the kind of dreamy glow that makes Sedona so magical for photography.
We met at Bell Rock, one of my favorite spots for family sessions. It’s easily accessible, offers incredible views, and looks beautiful in any season. Stephanie shared with me that her family loves to book photo sessions wherever they travel, a tradition I absolutely adore. It’s such a wonderful way to document meaningful trips and have those moments preserved forever.
Even though the Oh family had a large group in town, we kept the shoot intimate with their immediate family members. We captured a mix of moments, from sweet 70th birthday portraits for their mom to beautiful maternity photos for both sisters, who were expecting at the same time! The energy was joyful, heartfelt, and full of laughter, and we wrapped up just as the rain began to sprinkle again.
Thankfully, the rest of their weekend turned out to be much nicer than expected, giving them time to explore and enjoy all that Sedona has to offer. From scenic hikes and art galleries to cozy family dinners with a view, Sedona truly is the perfect place for a family getaway and an even better place to capture timeless memories through photography.
